ABOUT THE SIMULATOR

Developed by the Institute of Reconstructive Plastic Surgery over the past twenty years, the Craniofacial Interactive Virtual Assistant for Surgery (CIVA Pro) represents a significant advancement in surgical education. This platform offers innovative methods for teaching and disseminating complex surgical knowledge through interactive simulation. It deconstructs ten craniofacial procedures into detailed, step-by-step segments accessible to both medical professionals and patients' families. Users can activate intra-operative videos, voice overlays, images, and 3D labels at various points during the procedures, facilitating a comprehensive understanding of intricate three-dimensional surgical concepts. Similar to pilot training on flight simulators prior to actual flight, this tool aims to prepare a new generation of surgeons by enabling them to practice complex procedures virtually before operating on patients.

OUR VISION

The atlas is designed to serve a diverse audience—including surgical residents, interns, fellows, medical students, and seasoned surgeons—by enhancing their confidence and depth of understanding before entering the operating room. Ultimately, this educational resource aspires to improve patient care for children and adults with craniofacial anomalies both domestically and internationally. By equipping surgeons with more robust preparatory tools, the initiative seeks to elevate standards of practice worldwide.
